Glass-bottom walk project for Grand Canyon
“…Admission will be $25.
The project is still seeking an insurer, said architect David Jin, who said he came up with the skywalk idea while visiting the canyon in 1996.”

so i’d been wondering and again, the magnificence that is google provided the answer. someone should rewrite that part in hitchiker’s guide. you bet your ass you’d get an answer better than “42.”

so i googled my best guesstimate as “all your mice are belong to me” and came up with loads of hits but only two winners and the second one was most impressive.

that google search i did: implementing random nouns into a quote i could only hazard a guess at, got the wheels a spinnin…..

i’m so not getting this whole spaghetti god thing. i know it’s supposed to be witty and such, but it’s really going right over my head. clearly the london times is in on the joke. am i dim? have i lost my sense of humor? or is this simply as dumb as i think it is? the only part of it that makes me giggle is the word “pastafarian.” however, i’d take a pastafarian to be a fellow carb addict.

what’s more to my confusement, there’s a comment below the image liked above that says “hehe, all your religions are belong to pastafarian.” i know this is a parody of a quote. and i’ve heard many parodies of said quote. i haven’t a clue what quote this is or where it’s from and again, i’m left feeling quite out of the loop.

sodoku (the hamster version)
stopped in b&n saturday to price the muppet show - season one ($39.99 @ barnes & noble) and my eye was caught by this book ( official sodoku puzzle book: the utterly addictive number-placing game. there was a grind on the front with numbers in it so all the buzzers in my brain went off.

one of the problems with me is that words like “hot new”, “trendy”, “popular” and “addictive” trigger the firewalls in my ego, popping up “warning!” and “this action cannot be undone!” dialog boxes. so my first instinct is to shun this new fad and condemn it without investigation. but it’s got numbers on a grid and deals with words – a deadly combo.

the bigger problem is this: i’m terribly drawn to this new bit of mystery, but who’s got the time for this nonsense? learning a new word/puzzle game? oh man. i can hardly keep the dishes clean. maybe someone will get immersed in it and tell me all about it.

i gotta call andy.

wrt: the muppet show - season one
after saturday’s stellar festivities, andy and i had just enough energy to pop the dvd in and curl up in bed. man do i love the muppet show. you know how when you go back to the house you grew up during, say 8-12 years old? and everything’s smaller and not as fantastic as you remembered? i was born in 1974 but we didn’t have a tee vee until i was 8 (74+8=1982) so the muppet show is a bit older than my tee vee viewing. in short, we really could have used a good pot buzz before we slid that disk in. of course the writing is great and the snarky jokes are awesome (yes, i love waldorf and steadler), but some things, were just bizarre. granted, it was the 70s. just another instance where i really missed that 8 year-old brain.

…which brings me to my next bit…

friday was a work party – president’s birthday. all the guys where there with their respective lady-friends/wives and one of them brought his offspring. keegan is the boy’s name. he’s two. andy was enchanted by this creature and i later dubbed him “monkeydog” as that’s really what he seemed like to me. andy watched as monkeydog bonded with an antique toy truck (with a duck driver, i might add) and went through many problem-solving trials in an effort to get the smaller toys into the bed of the truck and haul them about the back lawn.

“oh my god. i think he just discovered ‘black.’” andy hushed to me excitedly. and thus began our discussion on learning, the development of neural pathways and wrinkles in the brain. i could go on for hours on this, but suffice it to say, we both agree that the loss/silencing of one’s inner 5 year old is a terrible thing indeed.

andy had earlier (in the week) asked me “how did you ‘play barbies?’” all i could share was how you dress them up, pretend you’re going to work/clubbing/out to dinner with g.i. joe or to the summer house in the closet and how when i’d recently sat down with some barbies and a full barbie kitchen, i was at a loss over what to do with them. further, i was extremely frustrated that my now adult fingers couldn’t manipulate the tiny drawers, snaps and cups as gracefully as i remembered.

i used to favor photoshop, but now that i’ve learned illustrator so well, i really only use photoshop for cropping, resizing, coloring and, well, photo editing. however…

if i had to, i’d choose legos over barbies any day of the week. it’s true now just as it was in 1980. and to design my own kit? ho man! how rad!

china says three hours of games is enough
techdirt.com
contributed by carlo on thursday, august 25th, 2005 @ 11:52amfrom the pac-man-stole-my-youth dept.the online gaming world has bred some strange incidents in parts of asia, like the korean man who died after playing for 50 hours straight, or the guy in japan that created an in-game bully bot to beat up people's characters and steal their goods. after seeing game-related incidents rise in china, the government there is introducing a three-hour time limit for online gaming sessions. after three hours, players' characters will start to lose abilities, and after five hours, they'll be "severely limited". after a five-hour break, gamers can start up again. it's hard to think that hardcore gamers won't find a way around the restrictions, or will simply change games or systems rather than quit playing. perhaps nothing's quite as effective as mom taking away the ol' nes controllers was.

north america, or at least california, should eliminate automobiles, vans, buses and motorbikes all together. no more cars. we all ride horses.

i was a bit behind schedule this morning when i hopped into the acura and peeled out of the parking garage. out of the parking lot, up the 163, over the 8 and up to the 5 in 4 minutes flat. then up the 5 to la jolla in 5 minutes. but then it’s 7-8 minutes on the la jolla exit ramp, 4-5 minutes through la jolla to the prestigious location of nautilus entertainment design inc. 1-2 minutes to park and another 1 or 2 to walk through the door. so let’s see here…4+5+7+4+1+1 (on a good day) = 22 minute commute with a soundtrack of either bad morning radio, a mix i’ve heard a millionbajillionbazillion times or the sound of the loose belt under the hood chirping like a cricket caught in the patio door.

“if only i was on a sweet morgan or quarter horse. this would be great.” i find myself musing.

“but if there were no cars, how would handicapped kids get about?” you ask
chariots.
next question?

“…moms taking childrens to soccer practice?”
big chariots. or stage coaches.
go on.

“…fat peoples?”
they can walk. they need to walk. okay, fine. big chariots.

imagine the beauty of it: of course we’d still have airplanes  and the technology of instant service, on demand movies, text messaging, nanotechnology and smart phones – all on horseback. i can see myelf right now: racing up the turfway that used to be the 5 north, laptop and makeup kit in my backpack, hair whipping in the wind, ipod strapped on, bugs in my grill and thighs of steel. imagine the new engineering and invention/innovation opportunities involving wheel design, suspension, stagecoach/buggy/chariot design. we’ve even get into the science behind harnessing the power generated by the turning of the wheels (dvd player).

what we’d loose:
built-in gps, satellite radio, cell phone/laptop charger, dvd players, air conditioning

what we’d gain:
more exercise, environmentally sound transportation, chaps, ponies

“but where will we keep all these horses?”
a parking spot is about the same amount of space a horse needs to be stabled in. plus, we’d have to build pastures since horses like to play.

“but what will all the mechanics do?”
work on the buggies and chariots.

“won’t this drive up the price of hay?”
most definitely. however, i kinda doubt hay will get anywhere near $67 a bale. ever.

“um, what about the winter? when it’s effing cold out? or when it’s raining?”
uh, well…let me get back to you on that one.

so then we’d have no more drunk driving, hit n run, carjacking, assholes who refuse to use their turn signals properly or idtiots chatting away on their cell phones. we’d have stables instead of parking garages, vets instead of grease monkeys, tack shops instead of showrooms, ranches instead of detroit, stable hands instead of the dmv –

“whoa! wait. what? no more dmv?! count me in.”

good. then it’s settled. someone get arnold on the phone.

you'd never know how hard it is to find a *current* forum for typography/fontography. these forums are either last updated july 03, 2003 or weeks behind in comments/posts/replies. where o where am i to find a good forum for learning Fontographer? bah!
anyhoo, here's what i've come across:

engadget. yeah, right. like i don't have enough to geek out over. andy's gettin a pc so he can game without making the hairs on the back of my neck dance. tom's building it too. very effing exciting! he's stuffing all the goods inside a lian li, too. :: drool :: so now i get to decide if i want to put the custom lappy up for sale. if i do that, may as well toss int he desktop pc and the lil lappy that could. i'll never ever get rid of the IBM phone book tho.

no way.

    keyboards to die for
  • Digitech G15 - LCD display, backlit keys, programmable "G" keys (like "F" keys, but not), serves as a hub for mouse, headphones, mic, etc...
  • Optimus - LCD keys that can switch labels depending on what application you're using. omfg
  • wolfclaw - this is just funny looking, but man would it help alleviate the stress from the right hand, you know?

you know, i've always wanted to effortlessly pee standing up. thank you, pee mate

i really really really wish i still had my old portfolio from school. i did some really great stuff back then. i've recently invested @ $200 in markers, bristol and a lame Lucy. i think i'll take that one back too. perhaps an actual overhead projector would be more appropriate - and fun.
markering used to be so easy for me. but then, i haven't really done anything in over 10 years. i've so lost my touch. didn't think that this sort of thing was a "use it or lose it" deal.
